Stop reading shit with this kind of title. Just stop. We all know what they’re going to say — wake up early, don’t listen to naysayers, sell everything and back pack through southeast Asia. Whatever. You know damn well you’re never going to be one of those people who joyfully wakes up at 4:30 and does yoga before going for a run and pounding a smoothie you made the night before, and you know what? That’s ok.

Listen. We’re all looking for meaning in chaos. We’re all trying to give ourselves the illusion of control when we know damn well that the promise of tomorrow can be obliterated in a second. I won’t say all of us, but I will say, in a moment of sheer and completely unprecedented optimism that most of us are trying to be our best selves a good percentage of the time. These articles are preying on these vulnerabilities, touting a few changes as the magical fix that will remove those moments of existential dread and yeah, I suppose if you’re exhausted or constantly on the move or, I dunno, deprived of nutrition because you’re existing on unsalted almonds and morning dew there’s not much room for existentialism but dude…it’s just fucking life.

Part of life — a huge part of it — is finding out how to find some joy in spite of all of this. Forcing yourself to adhere to a schedule invented by someone who doesn’t…
